Top 5 Will Ferrell Movies

January 29, 2013 4

What do Will Ferrell and a shark attack have in common? They’ll both leave you in stiches… Yep, probably not my best work but it’s not my comedy that we are ranking so let me live.

Undoubtedly the funniest man on the planet, Will Ferrell has left fans leaving cinemas with stomach cramps on numerous occasions due to his hilarious antics and everlasting one-liners. I have been given the difficult task to decide on his top 5 all time greatest movies. This is no easy task as the man is a comic genius and has produced many films worthy of a top 5 appearance.

5. Elf

This movie has snuck into my list, as I am one to get caught up in the Christmas spirit. This feel-good movie ranks up there with the all time great Christmas flicks such as Home Alone, Jingle All The Way and Die Hard. When Buddy the over sized elf finds himself in New York City at Christmas time he single handedly restores the lost Christmas spirit to many New Yorkers. Elf provides great quality humor appropriate for all ages and is well deserving of a spot on this list.

4. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Coming in at number four is Ferrell’s role as the redneck race car driver Ricky Bobby. Supporting him in this role John C. Reilly is the perfect wingman playing Cal Naughton Jr. The chemistry between these two is electrics and rates up there with the Australian opening combo of Matty Hayden and Justin “Alfy” Langer. Ferrell leads the way in this flick with some comic brilliance that will leave you in hysterics as he faces off against French rival driver Jean Girard played by Sacha Baron Cohen. The family dinner table conversations involving Bobby’s family are the definitely the highlights of this film. Genuinely funny.

3. Semi-Pro

The Rotten Tomatoes rating of 21% of critics liking the movie does Will Ferrell absolutely no justice. You should be ashamed of your self you uptight and unfunny nerds, go get your four inch think glasses checked at spec savers because you obviously can’t identify great impromptu wit and humor if it hit you in your acne riddled faces. The world could do with a few more outgoing sorts such as Jackie Moon who coaches, manages, owns and plays point guard for the Flint Michigan Tropics. They may not have made the NBA but they did make this list. (I’m still not sure what is the higher complement).

and then there was two…

2. Step Brothers

Step Brothers was very stiff not to take home the medal (ask Andrew McLeod how that feels). The lethal duo of Ferrell and J.C Reilly team up again for this knee-slapper. The one-liners such as “This wedding is horse-shit” and “We’re here to fuck shit up” will soon become over used cliques however this merely highlight the ever lasting impact this movie will have on generation Y. In IMBD’s ‘Quotes’ page they used the entire Step Brothers script, that’s how god dam hilarious this movie is.

1. Anchorman

With the biggest and best cast ever assembled on a movie set, it is no surprise that Anchorman comes in at numero uno of Will Ferrell’s all time greats. The story of Ron Burgundy is based around a self-centered news anchor who loves only one thing more than himself, his dog Baxter. Ron finds himself battling with the growing trend of ‘diversity’ (and no its not an old, old wooden ship that was used in the civil war era) and also his new co-anchor, Veronica Corningstone. This movie has it all from fight scenes, to love stories, to a man riding a bear; if that doesn’t tickle your fancy I’m not sure what will. If man were ever going to win a Nobel Prize it would be a unanimous decision in favor of John William Ferrell for his role as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman.

That’s the top 5, like it or hate it we would love to here your opinion here at The Cheap Shot, feel free to comment and post your own top 5 below.

It cant go unsaid that some greats have missed out on this list and honorable mentions must go out to The Other Guys, Blades of Glory, Kicking and Screaming, Old School and Superstar.

Elf would not have made my list. Def would rather have Zoolander in there…

Didn’t mind stranger than fiction, don’t think it deserves a top 5 either tho.

Didn’t think Semi-Pro was good. Wouldn’t have made my Top 10 list in a billion years. Reckon you got it spot on with the top 2 though
